Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. - Bertholet and Catton starred for Spokane as the Chiefs knocked off Everett 3-2 in yet another tight affair in the final matchup between the two teams this season.

The Chiefs got out to a rare early lead on Sunday night with Chase Bertholet scoring his first of the night and 27th of the season.

Rookie Tommy De Luca sped down the left side after the feed from Bonni, before squeezing the puck across net front to the crashing Bertholet. The La Pas native wasn't done there. Number 28 registered his 28th goal of the season after a sloppy Everett turnover, quickly making it 2-0 in the first.

The Chiefs' leading scorer is up to 67 points in 65 games played this season, with 28 goals and 39 assists.

Period two was a battle of the goalies with Cowan stopping all nine shots he faced, and Everett's Metzger stopping 12 shots in the frame.

The lid came off the net in period three with three total goals scored. Everett's stars shined bright with Berezowski scoring his 44th of the season off the assist from Pelletier. It was his 14th assist of the season after coming to Everett from Swift Current earlier this season.

Tommy De Luca wasn't done dishing on the night for Spokane, adding a second assist on fellow rookie Berkly Catton's outstanding third period goal at 5:45. Catton has made a habit of scoring tight angle goals this season, and his sniped backhand was no different tonight.

Catton picked up the feed, crossed the blue line and navigated his way through four defenders before beating Metzger from the sharpest of angles. The talented rookie continues to climb Spokane's record books, now sitting tied for third with Spokane legend Pat Falloon for goals as a 16-year-old with 22 scores this season.

Everett clawed one back late at 14:02, reversing the order of events from their first goal. Pelletier logged his 16th of the season from Berezowski.

Spokane weathered the late flurry as Cowan kept out 11 shots in the final period. The Chiefs were 0-2 on the power play and kept a clean net on three penalty kill attempts. Shots finished at 34 for each team but it was head coach Ryan Smith and the Spokane Chiefs who finished the night smiling.

Up next the Chiefs head to Tri-City on Friday and face the Americans again on Saturday night for the season finale back in Spokane.
