Spokane Chiefs News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs battled back from a two-goal deficit Friday night to eventually come away with a 6-4 victory over the Everett Silvertips on the road.
Everett jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after back-to-back goals by Dominik Rymon and Jesse Heslop at 9:47 and 11:29 in the first, respectively. From there, though, the Chiefs started to tilt the ice in their favor with a power play goal by blueliner Layton Feist at 13:45. Chase Bertholet and Rasmus Ekström earned assists on the play. It was Feist's sixth point in the last four games.
The Silvertips capped the first with a third goal at 15:45 by leading scorer Ben Hemmerling.
But Spokane went on to start the middle frame with three-straight goals, starting when overage forward Ty Cheveldayoff found an open lane and ran with it after picking up the puck from Shea Van Olm, ultimately finding the twine for his seventh goal of the season to bring the Chiefs within one just 34 seconds into play.
Fellow overager Conner Roulette found the equalizer soon after that as he chipped in a rebound netfront a little over a minute later as Spokane's top line of Roulette, Berkly Catton and Chase Bertholet all made their way to the night's scoresheet.
After that, Colorado Avalanche prospect Saige Weinstein stretched the puck all the way down the ice to a rushing Owen Martin who fired it on net where it was stopped by Tyler Palmer. Not to be deterred, Martin picked up his own rebound and promptly flicked it over the line to give the Chiefs their first lead of the night at 6:04. Goaltender Dawson Cowan also picked up an assist on the play - his third of the year.
The Silvertips pulled one back to once again even the score when Ramon netted his second of the night - this time a power play goal - at 14:45 to send the teams into the break tied at four apiece.
Spokane managed to stay in control in the final frame, especially once Catton capitalized on the man advantage at 8:40, sweeping the puck straight to the net and slipping it through Everett's netminder to regain a 5-4 lead. Roulette and defenseman Brayden Crampton earned assists on the play.
A strong defensive effort in front of the Chiefs' goal in the waning minutes of the game ended in Weinstein clearing the puck all the way down the ice and into the waiting empty Everett net to cap the scoring at 6-4.
Dawson Cowan was spectacular in Spokane's crease, turning away 42 of 46 (.913 SV%). In the end, five Chiefs finished with two points each - Chase Bertholet (2A), Berkly Catton (1G-1A), Rasmus Ekström (2A, +2), Conner Roulette (1G-1A, +1) and Saige Weinstein (1G-1A, +3).
The Chiefs went 2-for-5 both on the power play and the penalty kill. They look to carry their momentum to Kennewick, where they'll take on the rival Tri-City Americans Saturday night on SWX.
