Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky WNBA team has announced its pre-season schedule, which includes the team's first exhibition road game. The first pre-season game will be held on May 2 at home against Phoenix, followed by a May 4 game that has the Sky traveling to Milwaukee to face the Washington Mystics at the Al McGuire Center, which will be the first WNBA game played in Milwaukee. The pre- season concludes at home against Indiana on May 15.
The exhibition game in Milwaukee is being organized by Milwaukee-based Images of Us (IOU) Sports, a non-profit organization that provides sports education, fitness opportunities, career information and charitable assistance to girls and women who participate in all levels of sports. The Milwaukee Youth Sports Authority, which awards grants to organizations that provide sports programs for underserved youth in Milwaukee County, is a presenting sponsor of the event. IOU Sports will sell tickets to the game, with marketing support from the Sky.
"The Milwaukee exhibition game is a great opportunity for the Sky to reach out to a market that does not have a WNBA team," said Margaret Stender, CEO of the Sky. "IOU Sports shares our mission of inspiring confidence in women and girls, and we felt this was a great opportunity to showcase the excitement of the WNBA."
The Sky's training camp begins on April 24, giving Sky head coach Bo Overton nearly a month to shape the final roster before the Sky's first regular season game on May 20 at New York and first home game on May 22 against Los Angeles.
The Chicago Sky is the newest of 13 teams in the WNBA, the longest-running women's professional sports league in the world. The Sky celebrated it inaugural season in 2006. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.chicagosky.net.
