Chicago Stars FC News Release
Chicago, Ill. - Today the Chicago Red Stars announced the signing of Australian forward, Chelsie Dawber, to a two-year contract with a third-year option.
"Chelsie is an impressive young player. She has proven she can score goals at a high level, play multiple positions and still be effective," said Chris Petrucelli, Red Stars Head Coach. "She adds versatility and athleticism to an already dangerous attacking group."
Dawber played 15 games, starting in 14, for Adelaide United FC of the Australian A-League Women. The 22-year-old accounted for 10 of the club's 33 goals, and three assists, during their campaign last season, and helped lead the team to the A-League semi-finals round.
"I am really excited to be joining the Red Stars. Growing up it has always been my dream to play overseas. I am very grateful to Chris and the team for providing me this amazing opportunity!" said Chelsie. "I can't wait to start training with the girls, playing in front of all the fans, and push towards winning a championship this season!"
Dawber made her debut with Adelaide in the 2017/2018 season when she played in nine matches. In 2020/2021 Dawber won the team's golden boot award, scoring five goals in eight games.
Dawber's specific arrival date in Chicago is dependent on approval of her visa application.
