Chicago Mustangs News Release
Hoffman Estates, Illinois - Today, the Chicago Mustangs of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) announce the re-signing of three players for an undisclosed amount. Miguel Angel Vaca, Omar Santillan and Jesus Flores are back and determined
Omar Santillan is a presence on and off the field. When you watch him play on the field you understand how he has been awarded top honors as a defender in the Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido Profesional (LMFRPro). Team President Armando Gamboa stated, "[Omar] Santillan is one of the most enjoyable defenders in the league to watch because of his focus, attention, and the ability to communicate what is happening around him to his teammate's." Off the field is no different, as Santillan is by far one of the most charismatic and outgoing players on the team. When asked about what will be different this season with the Mustangs his response was "We must make the playoffs, and to do that we are working hard as a team to be better than our opponents in every way."
And if there is one thing that can bring a team together, it is a big save! Jesus Flores made a name for himself last season in the PASL racking up the second most saves in the league. Flores made it very clear this year the fans could expect nothing less, saying, "as a team our main focus is to win, but personally I need to make more saves." Flores also was not shy about his love for the fans saying "after a second championship with Guerreros, I am excited to be back home and to do everything possible to bring the Ron Newman Cup to Chicago".
No one asked Miguel Angel Vaca to come back to camp this season leaner and stronger than last year. That is just what a team leader does. Vaca spent the offseason also playing for the Guerreros, and during that time he was able to reflect on the 2012-13 Mustangs season. "I came into camp in the best physical condition I have ever been," said Vaca in a statement about his health. He continued with "I am going to be an example for my teammates like I was last season, and make sure that we grow each game as a team".
There is no doubt that these three players will be role models for the younger players on the team. "The experience they gain by playing the game basically year round is unprecedented; There are very few players this dedicated to the indoor game" concluded Gamboa. In addition to the championship that they won with the Guerreros La Raza de Guadalajara, the Mexican Sports Association (CODEME) recognized all three of the players for their enormous effort and dedication to the game.
With the season right around the corner, and the players preparing for the teams home opener on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Odeum in Villa Park, there is one thing that is obviously on the mind of every player from last year's team. Vaca said "playoffs or bust, and if we work as a team that will be very easy with the talent that we have here." There are still tickets available for the home opener, and they can be purchased by visiting the team's website at chicagomustangspro.com.
