Chicago Fire's Mike Banner Earns First MLS Goal of the Week Nomination

CHICAGO, IL (August 23, 2009) - Chicago Fire midfielder Mike Banner earned his first career Goal of the Week nomination this week for scoring the equalizer in the 85th minute of play with a left-footed strike during the Fire's exciting 3-2 comeback win over the Colorado Rapids on Sunday, August 23 at TOYOTA PARK.

In the 85th minute, Banner, positioned at the top of the 18-yard box, picked up a deflection by the Rapids defense and sent a left-footed rocket into the upper right side of the net to level the score 2-2.

The Fire was trailing the Colorado Rapids 0-2 at halftime. With 20 minutes left in the match, the Fire rallied to defeat the Rapids with a goal in the third minute of stoppage to take a 3-2 lead.
