Chicago Fire To Play Third Round Lamar Hunt Open Cup Match At Toyota Park

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Friday, June 13, 2008) - U.S. Soccer has announced the possible pairings for the third round of the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and the Chicago Fire have been awarded hosting rights for their match on Tuesday, July 1. The game will be played at TOYOTA PARK in Bridgeview, Ill.

Chicago's opponent for the match will be determined on June 24, when the Cleveland City Stars (USL2) play at the Minnesota Thunder (USL1). The two clubs play in the United Soccer League with USL1 being the league's first division and USL2 its second division. These leagues are considered the second and third tier of professional soccer in the United States respectively.

Ticket information will be announced in the near future.

ABOUT THE LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. Sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world. In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor long-time soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.

Should the Fire win on July 1, their next game would be July 8, at a site to be determined. The tournament's semifinals are scheduled for Aug. 12 with the final set for Aug. 26.

The Fire (6-3-1, 19 pts.) return to MLS play this Sunday at FC Dallas at 2:00 p.m. CDT (My50 Chicago, Telefutura).
