
Chicago Fire Sign Midfielder Davis Paul

CHICAGO, IL (March 17, 2011) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today that MLS SuperDraft selection Davis Paul has signed with the Fire. The University of California product, selected in the 3rd round of the MLS SuperDraft (51st overall), will be immediately added to the Fire's roster. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We've been pleased with Davis' skill, effort and attitude on-and-off the field," said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas. "Davis is a creative player and a strong competitor with the ability to play up top and on the wing. We are excited about his future with the club."
The Fire snagged Paul with the 15th selection in third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The Upland, California product scored 15 goals and added 21 assists in 78 appearances with the Golden Bears from 2007-2010. Paul was named NSCAA Third Team All-American and NSCAA First Team All-Pac-10 in his final season at Berkeley.
The Men in Red will begin their 14th MLS season during "First Kick" week when they travel to Dallas to challenge Brimstone Cup rivals and MLS Cup runners up FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 PM CT. The Fire host Opening Day at TOYOTA PARK against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, March 26 at 3:00 PM CT.
