CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has loaned Homegrown midfielder Alex Monis to Rio Grande Valley FC of the USL Championship for the remainder of the 2023 USL season. The Fire retains the right to recall Monis at any point, subject to MLS roster compliance guidelines.

Monis, 20, made his MLS debut with the Chicago Fire against the Columbus Crew on Nov. 7, 2021, playing the final 19 minutes of the match. Most notably, it was Monis' goal in the 90+2nd minute against the New England Revolution, just one minute after taking the field, that propelled the Fire to a come-from-behind 1-1 tie at SeatGeek Stadium on Oct. 7 in the final game of the 2022 MLS regular season.

In 2023, Monis featured in the Club's 3-3 tie with FC Cincinnati on March 18, coming on for Maren Haile-Selassie in the 81st minute. Monis also played the full 90 minutes in the Fire's 3-0 win against Chicago House AC in the third round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

At the MLS NEXT Pro level, Monis has been a consistent contributor for Chicago Fire FC II, having played 1,056 minutes in 19 matches (13 starts). He is second on the team with six goals, behind only Billy Hency who has seven.

Monis became the 18th Homegrown player in Fire history when he signed with Chicago on March 11, 2020. The midfielder has been with the Club since 2015, featuring in the Fire Juniors and Academy programs.
