Bridgeview, Ill. - Chicago Fire FC II (3-0-3-2) defeated Atlanta United 2 (2-4-0-0) 2-0 for its third consecutive home victory. Harold Osorio tallied his sixth goal of the year on a penalty kick, while Omari Glasgow added his second goal of 2024 late in second-half stoppage time. The win pushed Chicago to a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference pending later results.
Despite several forays into the Atlanta box, the Men in Red were stifled by the visitors for much of the first half. With eight minutes left in the half, David Tchetchao Karo found a pocket of space in the box to slip a ball to an open David Poreba. The Fire captain was tackled from behind, giving Osorio a chance at a penalty kick for the third time in as many consecutive matches in MLS NEXT Pro play. The Salvadoran midfielder cleanly converted his chance and the sides settled into a 1-0 Fire lead going into the break.
Neither team was able to establish longer periods of possession to open the second half. The Fire defense did not allow Atlanta a single shot on goal, while Chicago Fire Academy midfielder Vitaliy Hlyut had the clearest chance of regulation time when he struck the woodwork in the 83rd minute.
The visitors pushed forward late but were unsuccessful in finding an equalizer. The Fire took advantage, initiating a counter attack in the third minute of stoppage time that found Glasgow. The winger cut to the top of the box and unleashed a shot that found the upper corner of the net. The goal solidified the result, with the referee blowing his whistle upon the restart.
