Chicago Fire FC News Release


CHICAGO, IL (August 11, 2009) - The Chicago Fire is participating in a series of community events across the Chicagoland area over the next week. Throughout the year, the Chicago Fire participates in hundreds of community events to work with youth, charities and other organizations to promote the game of soccer by advocating wellness, healthy lifestyle choices, physical activities and education.

This week's events include several appearances from the Chicago Fire's mascot, Sparky. He will be at two Chicagoland sporting events: the Joliet Jackhammer's mascot game and the Chicago Sky mascot game, as well as at Brookfield Zoo for Fire Fridays and the Crestwood Soccer Opening Day parade.

What: Joliet Jackhammar's Mascot Game

When: Tuesday, August 11, 2009

6:05 PM game

Where: Silver Cross Field

1 Mayor Art Schultz Drive, Joliet

Who: Sparky, along with other Chicagoland mascots, will be cheering on the Joliet Jackhammers at their game this Tuesday.

What: Wacky Wildcat Wednesday at Kiddieland with Radio Disney

When: Wednesday, August 12, 2009

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Where: Kiddieland

1st Avenue and North Avenue, Melrose Park

Who: Sparky will be out at Kiddieland this Wednesday. The Fire and Radio Disney are partnering up to bring kids music and prizes to Kiddieland, as well as the opportunity to sign up for the Chicago Fire Kids Club.

What: Fire Fridays at Brookfield Zoo

When: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Where: Brookfield Zoo

3300 Golf Road, Brookfield

Who: Join Sparky for a day of fun, sun, and animals at the Brookfield Zoo this Friday, and take a bounce around in the Chicago Fire inflatable obstacle course.

What: Crestwood Soccer Opening Day Parade

When: Saturday, August 15, 2009

10:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Where: 139th and Lavernge Court, Crestwood

Who: Sparky will be riding on a fire truck during the Crestwood Opening Day Parade for the Crestwood Soccer League teams and about 1200 people. After the parade, watch as he helps to judge the contest for the best looking soccer team.

What: Chicago Sky Mascot game

When: Saturday, August 15, 2009

7:00 PM game

Where: UIC Pavilion

525 S. Racine Avenue, Chicago

Who: Sparky, along with other Chicagoland mascots, will be participating in mascot day at the Chicago Sky versus Minnesota Lynx game on Saturday. Sparky will be involved in many activities throughout the game, such as an autograph session, t-shirt toss, mascot dance contest, mascot bowling, and musical chairs.

What: Raging Waves Waterpark

When: Sunday, August 16, 2009

12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Where: Raging Waves Waterpark

4000 N. Bridge Street, Yorkville

Who: The Australian-themed waterpark has tube slides that are designed for families to ride together, speed slides, a lazy river, the Great Barrier Reef wavepool, and interactive kiddie areas. On select days, kids can play in the Chicago Fire obstacle course inflatable too! Kids Club parents should email sparky@chicago-fire.com to receive a coupon for $3 off entry for up to five people.

Chicago Fire Soccer was founded on October 8, 1997 as a Major League Soccer expansion team. The Fire won the MLS Cup in its inaugural season in 1998 and was crowned the champion of U.S. Soccer's national tournament, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006.
