Chicago Bandits Lose in Eight

Chicago Bandits News Release

Eileen Canney (7-1) picked up the 2-1 loss as Lisa Norris (5-4) and her Racers' squad edged out the Chicago Bandits in the extra inning win tonight at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The Bandits were able to string together a couple hits in the first two innings but solid defense by the Racers prevented any runs to cross home plate.

Akron was first to strike as Jamee Juarez walked and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. She then stole third to place herself into scoring position. Kenora Posey proved to be clutch as she knocked Juarez in to plate the first run of the game.

Chicago came close to evening the score in the top of the fourth. Rachel Folden got in the line of fire and was hit by a pitch. Speedster Ashley Carlson took Folden's spot as pinch runner on first. Samantha Findlay roped a single to center advancing Carlson to third. Findlay was able to take second as the Racers tried to make a play on Carlson. Stacy May took a full count walk to load the bases up for Nicole Trimboli. Unfortunately, Carlson was thrown out at home on the play and the Bandits were not able to capitalize on the situation.

It was Amber Patton that sparked the Bandits offense in the top of the sixth. She singled to center and then stole second to place herself in scoring position. An error by Akron's catcher allowed Patton to scurry onto third. Stacy May drilled a single down the leftfield line to earn her 10th RBI of the season and more importantly, the tying run of the game.

The contest remained in a standstill until the bottom of the eighth where a two out sacrifice fly by Jenny Topping scored Sari-Jane Jenkins to give the home team the run they needed to win.

The classic one two matchup will continue tomorrow night at 6:05 (central) as the first place Chicago Bandits (20-5) will take on the second place Akron Racers (16-10) to see who deserves the title of best team in the National Professional Fastpitch League.
