CHATTANOOGA, TN. - CHI Memorial Stadium and NewTerra Compost partner to implement composting at all CHI Memorial Stadium events. CHI Memorial Stadium is committed and dedicated to giving back to the community by making an environmental difference and impact. By implementing pre/post-consumer composting of items like paper and plate waste, as well as fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds and filters, the stadium aims to generously reduce the amount of waste that is filling local landfills.
"In the United States alone, the restaurant industry generates more than 11 million tons of food annually, at a cost of nearly $25 billion, and it is our goal to do our part in putting an end to the food waste epidemic," says CHI Memorial Stadium President, Caroline McWhorter. "Our food and beverage staff have been trained on the importance of sustainability, proper disposal of waste, and are working together to determine and implement strategies to minimize waste. We have implemented clear signage to inform staff and fans about their specific waste and where it should be disposed of."
"A 2018 Food Waste Report conducted by the EPA found that sports venues in the US combined produce over 76 millions pounds of food waste per year. NewTerra Compost is happy to partner with CHI Memorial Stadium as they work to create a sustainable venue that all Chattanoogans can enjoy," says NewTerra Compost Co-Founder & Owner Michael Ryan. "Every pound counts and it's because of organizations like this taking a stand that others can see the value in sustainability and join our mission to divert food waste."
