Chen Powers Aeros to Win Over Curve, 6-5

AKRON, OH - Chun Chen doubled home two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie as the Akron Aeros went on to a 6-5 win over the Altoona Curve Monday at Canal Park.

Grady Sizemore made his third rehab start for the Aeros going 2-4 with two RBI, while Jason Donald was 0-4 with two strikeouts in his second rehab start.

Right-handed pitcher Bryan Price came in from the bullpen to get the win pitching 1.1 scoreless innings, while right-handed pitcher Cory Burns recorded his third save of the season pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.

Right-handed pitcher Tim Alderson suffered the loss pitching two innings of relief and giving up three unearned runs.

The Aeros (3-2) got on the board first on a Juan Diaz solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Akron added two more in the fifth inning on a Sizemore double that scored Tim Fedroff and Jordan Henry to make it 3-0.

The Curve (2-3) answered back in the sixth inning scoring four times off Aeros starter Matt Packer to take a 4-3 lead.

The Aeros tied it at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a throwing error by Altoona second baseman Brock Holt that allowed Henry to score. Later in the inning, Chen hit a two-RBI double that scored Sizemore and Donald and the Aeros went on to take game one of the series.

The Aeros will go for their third straight win tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. in game two of a three-game series against the Curve. The Aeros will give the ball to left-handed pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz. He will be opposite Altoona righty Bryan Morris. Game two can be heard on Fox Sports 1350 AM. Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m.
