Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves closer Chasen Shreve has been promoted directly to the Atlanta Braves from Double-A Mississippi. Shreve is the 16th M-Brave to receive a promotion directly to the big leagues from Pearl, and he's now one of more than 85 former M-Braves to receive a call up to the show.
The southpaw was leading the Southern League with a 12.59 strikeout per nine innings pitched ratio. He also ranked second in the league in lowest walks per nine innings (1.33) and fewest base runners per nine innings (8.61). Shreve was 3-2 with seven saves and a 2.48 ERA in 36 outings for the M-Braves. He'd recorded 76 strikeouts in 54.1 innings pitched and held opponents to a .213 batting average.
Shreve, 24, was selected by the Braves in the 11th round of the 2010 draft out of the College of Southern Nevada. He made his professional debut with R-Danville (2-0, 2.25) in 2010. Shreve spent the entire 2011 season at Low-A Rome (5-6, 3.86) and split the 2012 season between High-A Lynchburg (4-4, 2.15) and Double-A Mississippi (2-1, 3.93). Last season, Shreve appeared in 36 games with the M-Braves (3-1, 4.43) and 14 games with the Hillcats (0-1, 2.75).
With the promotion to Atlanta, Shreve becomes the second M-Braves closer to head to Atlanta this season. Shae Simmons, who began the 2014 season as the Braves Double-A closer, received the same call up on May 31. Shreve and Simmons were a perfect combined 14-for-14 in save opportunities with the M-Braves this season.
The Mississippi Braves baseball team is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since making the move from Greenville, SC, in 2005, over 85 M-Braves have gone on to play in the big leagues. The M-Braves have made postseason play three times and went on to win the Southern League Championship in 2008. Tickets are on sale now.
