Charyszyn Tallies Twice in Loss

BLAINE, Minn. - Kevin Charyszyn scored the first two goals of his career, but the Wichita Falls Wildcats could not find a way to contain the Minnesota Magicians, losing 5-4 on Thursday evening at Schwan Super Rink.
Austin Hingtgen also scored the first goal of his career, Alex Falconer found the back of the net for the third straight game, and Max Reisinger chipped in on offense with two assists on the night.
An eventful opening period twice saw the Magicians take a one-goal lead, but both times the Wildcats answered back quickly.
Brady Heppner opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal four minutes into the contest, but Wichita Falls responded well, and tied the affair around the halfway mark of the frame.
Matt Koch picked up the puck at the left point, and skated down to the circle. His shot was turned away, but it landed right onto the stick of Falconer to sweep home for his third tally of the season.
Minnesota regained the edge on a power play goal from Matt Colford, but once again, the Wildcats responded well. Tommy Apap intercepted a pass at the offensive blue line and touched the puck along to Reisinger. The Austrian's shot was kicked away, but Charyszyn was on hand to slam it home to make it 2-2 on his first-career tally.
Wichita Falls came flying out of the gates in the second period, and gained their first lead of the contest barely three minutes into the stanza. A nice pinch by Scatliff at the blue line sent the puck cleanly to the stick of Charyszyn alone in front, and he wristed a shot into the side-netting from the top of the crease for his second of the night.
Nathan Krusko managed to poke home a loose puck from behind the net to answer back for the Magicians, but the 'Cats were soon back on top.
Farmer won a race to a loose puck at the offensive blue line. After chipping the disc into space, he played a perfect backhand pass to Hingtgen sprinting down from the point, who roofed it to make it 4-3.
It looked like the Wildcats were in control in the third period, before a bad penalty gifted Minnesota a power play chance. Marc Michaelis managed to convert on the man advantage, as his point blast caromed off a Wildcats' skate and in.
With time winding down in the frame, the Magicians took the lead for good, as Krusko's shot from the slot was spilled right to Heppner, who slammed it home to make it 5-4.
The Wildcats are back in action on Friday afternoon when they take on the Minnesota Wilderness at the Schwan Super Rink as part of the North American Hockey League Showcase. Puck drop is slated for 1:15 p.m., with video coverage available on FASTHockey.com.
