September 18, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Brookings Blizzard News Release
The Brookings Blizzard had a strong showing in their first game of the 2014 NAHL Showcase but were unable to skate away with the victory, loosing 3-2 to the Springfield Jr. Blues.
Joseph Carney got the Jr. Blues on the scoreboard first with a goal just 7:01 into the game. Max Rasberg and former Blizzard forward Nikita Prishyvalko had the assists.
The Blizzard outshot the Blues 9-7 in the first period but were unable to put one in the back of the net.
In the second period the Blizzard were called for a hooking penalty, sending Tyler Frischmon to the box for two minutes. Just seven seconds into the Springfield power play, Tim Faulkner score off of assists from Max Kalter and Joshua Lammon, giving the Blues a 2-0 lead.
The Blizzard would turn up the intensity. One minute and twenty seconds later, two returning Blizzard veterans would connect on the team's first goal of the season. Beau Michaud scored at the 9:36 mark off an assist from Joe Nathe. The score would remain 2-1 after two periods.
Just 56 seconds into the final frame, Lammon would get his second point of the games, scoring off of the assist from Kalter, his second of the game, and Jason Dhooghe.
The Blizzard would not go away quietly. Joe Anderson, who spent time with the Blizzard the last two seasons and was just acquired on Monday, scored to make the score 3-2 early in the third period. Beau Michaud had the assist.
The two teams played hard the rest of the way but the Blizzard couldn't find the back for the equalizer and would fall in the season opener 3-2.
The Blizzard will have to have short memories as they take the ice again today on day two of the showcase. Today's opponents are the Janesville Jets, who are 2-1 on the season. The puck will drop at 1:45pm at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, MN. The game can be seen live on Fasthockey.com.
