Charlotte Independence News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Independence announced today the signing of midfielder Nathan Gray from the Atlanta United Academy to the USL League One squad.
"I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to sign with the Charlotte Independence, and I'm buzzing to start playing for the club," Gray said. "I'm looking forward to making an impact on the team in any way possible."
A rising star in the southeast, Gray is ranked third in the state of Georgia for the high school class of 2026. He previously attended a US Soccer Regional ID U15 camp.
Gray joins the Independence roster following stints with the Atlanta United U16, U17, and U19 teams. The Grayson, Georgia, native scored nine goals and notched 14 assists this season. Gray helped lead the U16 squad to the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs with a first-place finish in group play during the MLS NEXT Flex Tournament.
"Nathan is a player with the potential to develop into a high level first team player as a central midfielder," head coach Mike Jeffries commented. "His skill set fits well with how we play - he is an excellent passer of the ball and capable individually in 1 v. 1 situations. I am looking forward to seeing his development and having him compete with our veteran group."
The Charlotte Independence are back in action on Saturday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. against One Knoxville at Regal Soccer Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fans can live stream the match for free on Bahakel Sports.
