Charleston Battery to Play England's Nottingham Forest

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery will host two-time European Champions Nottingham Forest in an international exhibition match at Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday, July 28. This is the third consecutive year that the Battery has brought an English side to Charleston for a summer game; in 2010 the Battery hosted Bolton Wanderers and in 2011 the Battery played Portsmouth FC.

Nottingham Forest are managed by Steve Cotterill who managed Portsmouth FC last year. Cotterill took over at Forest in October 2011.

n-Power Championship side Nottingham Forest are one of the most historic clubs in English soccer. Forest, as they are usually called, are one of just two English clubs to have won back-to-back European Cups (now known as the Champions League), having won in 1979 and 1980 under legendary manager Brian Clough.

Charleston Battery vs. international opposition

Charleston has a long tradition of hosting foreign clubs starting back in 1993 when the Battery played Jamaican Premier League side Constant Springs FC and Latvian team, FK-RAF Riga.

The Battery defeated then English Championship side Sunderland A.F.C by a score of two goals to one in 2004 and has twice hosted Mexican Primera opposition defeating Puebla F.C. and then losing a match versus Atlante FC.

In recent years the Battery has hosted Jamaican Premier League side Village United and English sides Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth F.C.
