Dayton Dutch Lions News Release

After a long road trip over the weekend, the Dayton Dutch Lions headed up to Chicago to face the Chicago Fire PDL team in the second round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. After a slow start, Eli Garner scored off a beautiful cross from Shane Smith to go up 1-0. In the second half, the Fire refused to let up and put the pressure to the Dutch Lions. With two minutes remaining in regulation, the Chicago Fire tied up the game. However, despite being beat before in stoppage time, the Dutch Lions finally won a well fought game. With 30 seconds left in stoppage time, Michael McNamara delivered a corner kick, resulting in a scrimmage in front of the Fire net, when Daniel Holowaty connected giving the Dutch Lions their first win of the season.

Coach Ivar Van Dinteren stated it was a tough game for the Dutch Lions, with this being their third game in five days. However, "we fought hard, but got the win we were due" Coach Van Dinteren is looking forward to the next round, in which the Dayton Dutch Lions will face the Columbus Crew in the Crew stadium at 7.30pm.
