Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (7-5), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated at the hands of the Maine Red Claws (9-2), 96-82, at the Portland Exposition Building on Sunday evening. The loss snaps Canton's three-game win streak and gives Maine an early 2-1 lead in this season's six-game series between the two Atlantic Division foes.

With the Red Claws holding a 24-22 advantage after the opening period, the home team seized control of the game in a strong second quarter performance. Maine held Canton to just five field goals on 19 attempts in the second (26%) and limited their second chances by cleaning the glass for 16 boards to the Charge's seven. The Red Claws outscored the Charge 29-16 in the second and took a 53-38 lead into the half.

Maine would maintain an advantage the rest of the game, falling below double digits briefly in the fourth when up 85-64, the Charge reserves fought to get the visitors back in the game with a 12-0 run. But it was the Red Claws' night, as they responded with a Tim Frazier triple on the single digit lead's next possession to hold Canton off the rest of the way.

Stephen Holt led Canton in scoring with 15 points in 39 minutes. Cleveland Cavaliers assignment Alex Kirk netted 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 26 minutes. Justin Johnson scored all 12 of his points in the fourth quarter. Michael Dunigan added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and two blocks in 20 minutes. With today being the sixth game in the last ten days, the Charge bench combined for 40 points and four blocks.

Omari Johnson nailed 6-of-11 three-pointers en route to 24 points with seven rebounds and three steals in 41 minutes for Maine. Chris Babb scored 17 points on 6-of-6 shooting with seven boards and three steals in 37 minutes. Frazier posted 16 points, 13 assists and two steals in 39 minutes for the Red Claws.
