Cleveland Charge News Release

The Canton Charge (5-11), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, fell Tuesday night at home to the Central Division leading Sioux Falls SkyForce (12-3), 99-94. The division foes will meet up five more times this season, with the next bout coming on January 23rd in Canton.

After an even first quarter saw Sioux Falls ahead 23-22, Canton's reserves stepped in to make an impact in the second. The Charge bench scored 27 of the team's 29 points in the second on 10-of-18 shooting (56%). Trailing 37-33 early on in the second quarter, the hosts outscored the Skyforce 18-10 into the half to go ahead 51-47.

The Charge opened the third period with a 9-2 run to build their biggest lead of the game at 60-49 before the Skyforce answered with a 7-0 to cut the lead down to four. After a pair of technical fouls on top of free-throws following a shooting foul, the Skyforce knotted the game at 62 apiece. The two teams battled back and forth for two ties and four lead changes culminating with a Quinn Cook layup to give the Charge a 76-74 lead heading into the fourth.

The Skyforce made their move when trailing 81-79, held Canton scoreless over a span of 7:25 on a 14-0 run to take a 93-81 lead. Cook snapped the drought on the next possession and 1:54 left, but the visitors' advantage proved to be too much to overcome down the stretch. Canton hit their final six attempts from the field as Sioux Falls converted enough free-throws to hold off the late rally.

Canton was paced by Cook's 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting in 31 minutes of action, with 18 points coming in the second half. Michael Stockton provided a spark off the bench, scoring 10 points in 16 minutes of relief. Los Angeles Clippers assignment C.J. Wilcox added 12 points in 30 minutes for the Wine and Gold.

Jarnell Stokes lead a balanced Sioux Falls attack with 19 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes on assignment from Miami. DeAndre Liggins played all 48 minutes en route to 17 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. Rodney McGruder added 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting in 46 minutes.
