Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - Tyler Harvey hit nine three pointers in the fourth quarter and two overtimes to lead the Erie BayHawks (5-9) to an improbable victory over the Texas Legends (7-7) this evening.
The teams traded baskets to begin the game but Texas took over in the latter half of the quarter by going on an 8-0 run to jump out to a 10-point lead. Melvin Ejim paced the BayHawks through the first, totaling nine points. Triggered by four John Jordan points, the BayHawks went on a 14-2 run in the second but were still unable to take a hold of the lead. Both teams shot well in the half with the BayHawks shooting 53% compared to the Legends 57%. The BayHawks continued their trend of leading the league in fouls committed by notching 16 in the half alone.
The Legends jumped out to a 17-5 run to open the second half behind three made baskets from Brandon Ashley. Alex Davis and Daniel Coursey were the lone BayHawks' players to record points in the third.
Harvey knocked down nine three-pointers from the start of the fourth through the end of the second overtime. He was assisted by a last second John Jordan floater at the end of regulation to tie the game 111-111 and send it to overtime. The two teams traded baskets through the first overtime to tie at 115-115 and send it to a second. Tu Holloway did what he could to put the Legends back on top in the second overtime by hitting two consecutive jump shots but he was no match to Harvey's hot streak. In the final minute of the second overtime, Harvey hit two of his nine three-pointers to seal the victory, 125-120.
Holloway paced the Legends with 29 points and 10 assists. Allen Durham added 16 off the bench and Michael Eric and Toure' Murry each had 14 points. The Legends relinquished a 22-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Harvey posted 29 points. Jordan Sibert had 20 points and four rebounds in his first start of the season. Davis had his second double-double in a row with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Jordan also had a double-double with 10 assists and 19 points.
The BayHawks are back in action tomorrow night against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at Erie Insurance Arena. Tip-off is 7pm. Tickets are available at eriebayhawks.com/youthsports. All kids under 12 wearing their youth sports jerseys get in free. It is the first And-1 Wednesday presented by Smith's Provisions with $1 hot dogs, popcorn, and sodas.
