Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif - Playing in front of a Saturday night home crowd for the first time in two months, the Foxes put on a show with a 4-0 rout of Seattle Sounders 2.
Christian Chaney opened up his USL and Fresno FC account in front of his hometown, scoring off his chest in the 52nd minute to put Los Zorros ahead 2-0. Zachary Ellis-Hayden, back in the lineup after suffering an abdominal strain injury, provided the assist - his second of 2018.
That goal opened the floodgates as two minutes later Jemal Johnson fired a rocket shot from 25-yards out. At the 84th minute, the Englishmen bagged a brace to make it 4-0 and move him into a tie for third for most goals in the USL with six this season.
Los Zorros earned a penalty kick in the first half after a handball by Seattle. Juan Pablo Caffa stepped up and buried the ball into the right corner for the lead. Caffa also finished with an assist, providing the through ball to Johnson's first goal.
Goalkeeper Kyle Reynish came up with a big save in the first half, and the Foxes defense kept S2 off the board for the club's third clean sheet of the season.
The Foxes continued to apply pressure and almost up their total in the 77th minute but Renato Bustamante's chance was hit over the crossbar.
Fresno FC improves to 3W-4L-6D on the season, sitting in 11th place with 15 points. The Foxes play next in the U.S. Open Cup against MLS side LAFC on Wednesday. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff inside Banc of California Stadium. Fans can purchase a ticket package that includes a ticket to the match, a bus ride from Fresno to LA and back, plus a pre-game tailgate.
