Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â Wide receiver/defensive back Mike Chandler and fullback/linebacker Marlon Moye-Moore have been selected as the team and fan club Players of the Week, the team announced today.
Chandler was tabbed by the front office resulting in his first weekly honor of the season, while Moye-Moore earned his first Fox Hole Fan Club selection and his second player of the week honor this year.
Needing two catches to reach the 100-reception plateau, three-year veteran Mike Chandler hauled in a pair of passes â both for touchdowns â for a total of 59 yards in the 52-36 win over Columbus last Saturday. His 100th catch came at the 10:49 mark of the third quarter, a 27-yard scoring strike from quarterback Johnny Turman.
Defensively, Chandler led the team with six and a half tackles, including six solo stops. He also broke up a pass in the winning effort.
Chandler, who became the Foxes all-time leading scorer earlier in the season, currently sits at 100 receptions for his career for 1,469 yards. He has scored a team-record 39 career touchdowns and scored 236 career points.
Moye-Moore, a 6-2, 255-pound fullback/linebacker from the University of Maryland, earned the Fox Hole Fan Club's weekly award. He tallied a pair of scores, one rushing and one receiving, on Saturday. He plunged in from three yards out early in the first quarter and then the rookie nearly brought the roof down on the North Charleston Coliseum as he scored on a 36-yard pass from backup quarterback Tim Hicks.
Moye-Moore first made a one-handed grab of a screen pass from Hicks. He then avoided one would-be tackler, cut back to his left and charged downfield, shedding Wardog tacklers until he staggered into the end zone.
The Swamp Foxes push for a team-first playoff appearance culminates this Saturday, July 26 with the final home game of the 2003 regular season. The Foxes play host to the Richmond Speed, a team they bested by 23 in the two teams' first meeting back in June.
Festivities kick off with the Tailgate Zone, featuring live music from the bluegrass group "YeeHaw Junction," face painting, balloons, and jump castles for kids starting at 5:00 pm. Saturday night is also The Citadel Alumni night. Join other former Bulldogs as they tune up for the fall tailgating season in the parking lot at the North Charleston Coliseum. Special Citadel ticket prices are also available for alum.
