Chacin makes MLB debut at Yankee Stadium

(New York)---Pitcher Gustavo Chacin, who helped lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to the 2004 Eastern League Championship, became the third alum to pitch in the Major Leagues this season, starting and beating New York 6-3 on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
Chacin, who was 19-2 combined for the Fisher Cats and Triple-A Syracuse, was lifted in the eighth inning, after loading the bases with the Toronto Blue Jays leading the New York Yankees 6-1. The Yankees then added two more off reliever Miguel Batista. Chacin worked seven innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs. He walked three and struck out two in his Major League debut, throwing 98 pitches, 63 for strikes.
Chacin, a 23-year old lefthander from Maracaibo, Venezuela, joined Adam Peterson and Kevin Frederick as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats who have played in the Major Leagues. All have appeared this season for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Chacin and Fisher Cat teammate Brandon League, a right-handed reliever, were called up to Toronto upon completion of the Championship series on Saturday night. New Hampshire completed a finals sweep of the Altoona Curve to claim the Eastern League Championship.
Shortstop Russ Adams, who played for the New Haven Ravens in 2003 (Toronto AA), drove in three runs with a home run and a single.
