CFL's 2008 Offensive All-Star Team Announced
Published on November 13, 2008 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
Toronto, ON (November 13, 2008) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) released today the 2008 CFL Offensive All-Star Team.
The all-stars were selected by 46 voting members, including representation from the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and the eight CFL head coaches, and fans from across the country.
Fans were given the opportunity to have their voice heard through the Future Shop CFL All-Star Balloting Program where three quarters of a million player votes were cast.
The FRC voting panel consists of representation from each CFL market and a national chapter.
"Thanks to our fans who once again turned out in spades to vote for this year's all-stars," said CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon. "And thanks to our coaches and the FRC for their efforts in helping us recognize our great players. Congratulations to all of our all-stars and good luck to those who are up for outstanding player awards next week in Montreal."
NOTE: The voting for CFL All-Stars differs from the voting for CFL Player Awards. All-Star voting includes fans, while player award votes are cast by coaches and members of the Football Reporters of Canada.
So today's announcement of the CFL offensive team all-stars makes the Player Awards presentation in Montreal on Thursday, November 20 even more intriguing.
Will Henry Burris and Kamau Peterson be honoured as outstanding players next week in Montreal because Future Shop CFL All-Star Fan balloting put Anthony Calvillo and Ben Cahoon over the top? Or will the two Alouettes follow-up their all-star nomination with outstanding player awards?
Those questions will be answered next Thursday night at the 2008 Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards in Montreal.
