CFL names players of the week

Published on October 13, 2004 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

Offensive Player of the Week

RB – Kenton Keith #28

Saskatchewan Roughriders

Highlights

Keith had 18 carries for 161 yards with one (1) touchdown.

Game Notes:

Keith used his strong north-south running style to turn in a superb effort. He hit the holes extremely fast and showed the breakaway speed and power to take it all the way. His great peripheral vision and his feel for soft spots is exceptional.

1st Runner Up: Jason Tucker #83, Edmonton Eskimos

2nd Runner Up: Antonio Warren #34, BC Lions

Judge: Ellison Kelly

Defensive Player of the Week

DB – Donny Brady #26

Edmonton Eskimos

Highlights

Brady played effectively in a game that included two (2) momentum-altering interceptions and six (6) tackles.

Game Notes:

The entire Eskimos defensive backfield played terrific football against a tough Alouettes unit. Brady was selected because I felt his efforts were most vital in the Eskimos' victory. Without Brady's hard work, I felt the Als would have won going away.

1st Runner Up: Malcolm Frank #10, Edmonton Eskimos

2nd Runner Up: Reggie Givens #58, Ottawa Renegades

Judge: Ellison Kelly

Lineman of the Week

DE – Jonathon Brown #97

Toronto Argonauts

Highlights

Brown had a mammoth game against the Lions that included seven (7) tackles and four (4) quarterback sacks.

Game Notes:

Brown was a dominating force that affected everything that ran to his side of the line. He gave the BC quarterback fits all game. I was most impressed with his upper body strength and his non-stop motor.

1st Runner Up: Jeremy O'Day #54, Saskatchewan Roughriders

2nd Runner Up: Tom Canada #44, Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Judge: Ellison Kelly

Special Teams Player of the Week

K – Noel Prefontaine #1

Toronto Argonauts

Highlights

Prefontaine was six-for-six in field goal attempts, accounting for 18 of the Argos' 22 points.

Game Notes:

Prefontaine's an athlete and a kicker – the ball just exploded off his foot. He showed a strong leg and good range. His punts were excellent, with good hang time and his kickoffs were deep. Prefontaine was the difference in this meaningful ball game.

1st Runner Up: Jason Armstead #88, Ottawa Renegades

2nd Runner Up: Sean Spender #44, Edmonton Eskimos

Judge: Ellison Kelly
