
CF Brown and RHP Lane Named North American League Players of the Week

(June 20, 2011. San Ramon, CA) The North American Baseball League, one of the premier independent professional leagues on the continent, announced today that Edmonton Capitals center fielder Steve Brown and Lake County Fielders right-handed pitcher Greg Lane have been named the Rawlings Players of the Week for the week of June 12.
Edmonton center fielder Steve Brown hit .500, collecting 9 hits over 5 games for the Capitals. Brown led the league last week with 4 homeruns and drove in 10 runs. He also stole 2 bases and scored 11 times, with 5 walks and just 2 strikeouts. Brown joined the Capitals in 2010, after spending 5 seasons in the Houston Astros minor league system. Last year for Edmonton, Brown hit 4 homeruns in 80 games. So far in 2011, Brown has the same amount through just 5 games after joining the team on June 12th. Brown has extensive minor league experience, and is still just 24 years old.
Lake County right-hander Greg Lane made 4 appearances for the Fielders last week, including his first start of the season. A workhorse for the Fielders, Lane leads the league in wins with 4 after collecting his first win as a starter by going 5 1/3 innings against Maui on June 19th. He has not lost a game yet. In his 10 innings pitched last week, Lane did not give up a single run and has an impressive 2.66 ERA for the season. A professional since 2009, Lane is just 25 years old.
