Ceremony Honors Three Local Community Groups

July 27, 2006 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Sacramento Monarchs News Release

Rotary and Kiwanis formed a unique partnership in an effort to win the WNBA's nationwide "Court of Dreams" promotion, which rewarded the group that sold the most tickets for any WNBA game between May 20 and June 30 with an official regulation WNBA basketball court donated to the charitable organization of their choice. The Rotary and Kiwanis groups teamed up to sell 6,284 tickets for Monarchs games between May 20 and June 25, in order to win the court on behalf of the YMCA of Greater Sacramento. The Monarchs tickets sold by the groups were donated to youth organizations throughout the Sacramento community, allowing deserving youth to experience a professional sporting event and become inspired.

This marks the second season that Rotary and Kiwanis have teamed up for the "Court of Dreams" promotion. Last season, they teamed up to win a court on behalf of the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento. Although the Washington Mystics won the national promotion by a mere two tickets, Joe and Gavin Maloof and the Sacramento Monarchs donated the funds to construct the court for the Children's Receiving home in appreciation of the Rotary and Kiwanis groups' exceptional efforts.

A special ceremony to honor the organizations' achievements will take place at ARCO Arena on August 1st when the Sacramento Monarchs take on the Houston Comets at 7 p.m. Members of the Sacramento Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs and the YMCA will be present to officially accept the prize and to tip off construction at the YMCA site.

Representatives from the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs and YMCA of Greater Sacramento will be available to the media for interviews immediately following the presentation.
