Central Valley Coyotes News Release

Fresno, CA-The mood is not jovial for the Coyotes, it just back to business as usual. Coming off of a Bye Week the Central Valley Coyotes dispatched the Stockton Lightning in relatively ordinary fashion Saturday, 62-27.

The Coyotes, who faltered against Amarillo in week 2 of the af2 season, rebounded nicely versus their inner state rivals. Led by seven Joe Ayoob touchdown passes and some stellar defense by Weston Borba and company, Central Valley regained some momentum heading in to their home opener April 26th against West Division leading Spokane.

"We are excited at the opportunity to get our first win against a team we've never beaten, said Coyotes Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr."

Central Valley has a challenge in front of them as a 3-0 Shock team rolls in to Selland Arena this Saturday at 7:00 pm. In the two year history of the Coyotes-Shock match up, the Coyotes have never registered a notch in the win column versus Spokane. In their four meetings however, Central Valley has not laid down against the 2006 Arena Cup Champions. Two of the four meetings have been decided on the final play of the game. In 2007 Spokane threw a 20 yard game winning touchdown pass with seven seconds on the clock and in 2006 the Coyotes overcame a 20 point deficit only to miss a game winning field goal as time expired.

The Coyotes did look as if they had found some rhythm against the Lightning last Saturday. Along with Ayoob's fine performance, af2 rookie WR Nichiren Flowers seemed to find his stride once again as he hauled in four touchdowns. Weston Borba had a stellar game on the defensive side of the ball, recording two interceptions, one of which he retuned for a touchdown.

The Lightning were hampered by injuries coming in to the game, most notably, QB Chad Elliot did not play due to illness. Stockton seemed to have the cards stacked against them from the start, as on the Coyotes second play from scrimmage QB Joe Ayoob fell down after taking the snap, and then proceeded to get up and throw a 26 yard touchdown to WR Jomo Wilson.

The Stockton game hopes to prove beneficial for the Coyotes, both in the momentum aspect and the in the familiarity category. The af2 season is still young and for Central Valley, the upcoming game with Spokane will be a huge test of their mettle.

The first 2,000 fans who find their way to Selland Arena this Saturday April 26th, at 7:00pm, will receive a 2008 Central Valley Coyotes Schedule magnet presented by EYE-Q Vision Center. Not to mention an up close and personal seat to the af2's premier West Division showdown.
