Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Central Illinois Flying Aces fell to the Omaha Lancers after a last minute goal, 4-3, in a back and forth game.
The Aces capitalized on the only power play opportunity of the night as both teams played a clean game.
At 12:09 in the first, Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, NH) drove into the offensive zone and found Colby Enns (Minot, ND) driving the slot. Enns circled around the back of the net and made an outlet pass to Jeremy Davidson (Schoolcraft, Mich.) at the top of the right circle. Davidson wristed one past the netminder while under pressure from the Lancers defender to score his twelve of the season.
Omaha tied the game at 16:48 when Brendan Furry entered the zone and dropped a pass back for Jaxon Nelson. Nelson scored from the left circle to get Omaha on the board.
Bradley Marek (Big Rapids, Mich.) broke the tie at 5:17 in the second. Marek shot the puck from the top of the zone. The Omaha goaltender made the initial save, but the puck sat beside him the crease. Marek outmuscled three Omaha defenders to poke the loose puck into the back of the net. Benito Posa (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and Joe Dunlap (Windham, NH) tallied assists on the goal.
The Lancers tied the game again late in the second. Aleksi Peltonen skated around the back of the net and slid the puck through the blue to Brendan Furry. Furry slipped the puck past the goaltender's outstretched pad to make it a two-two game.
Peltonen broke the tie in favor of the Lancers at 2:34 in the third when he managed to score top-shelf while on his knees in the slot.
Phil Lapointe (Burr Ridge, Ill.) scored his first with Central Illinois at 18:12 in the third on the power play. An initial shot from Davidson resulted in a net-front flurry. Stephen Halliday (Toronto, Ont.) tapped the puck over to Lapointe who buried it to tie the game.
Omaha took the lead back at 19:09 in the third. Ryan Snowden (Kennett Square, Penn.) made the stop on a shot from Logan Will and the puck only went into the net when Ryan Savage made contact with the goaltender. After discussion from the referees, the goal stood.
Next weekend, Central Illinois travels to face the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday, Dec. 14th at 7:05 p.m. The following night (Sat., Dec. 15), the Flying Aces will be in Cedar Rapids to face the RoughRiders at 7:05 p.m. The next home game will be Friday, Dec. 28th as the Aces host Wrestling Night.
