NEW YORK - Dec. 3, 2007 - The Boston Celtics today announced they assigned Gabe Pruitt, their second-round selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, to their D-League affiliate Utah Flash for the second time during the 2007-08 season. Pruitt was previously assigned to the D-League on Nov. 23 and recalled to the Celtics on Nov. 26. NBA players in their first or second year of service are eligible to be assigned three times during a season to their team's D-League affiliate.
A 6-4 guard from USC, Pruitt averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 37 minutes per game during his first stint in the D-League this season, including leading the Flash to the first win in franchise history with a 31-point performance against the Anaheim Arsenal on Nov. 24.
Since his Nov. 26 recall, Pruitt has averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 assists in six minutes of action for the Celtics, including two points, one rebound and four assists in 13 minutes against the New York Knicks on Nov. 29.
Pruitt joins a Flash team which features fellow Celtic assignee Brandon Wallace and is third overall in the West Division (2-2 on the season). Pruitt's second assignment is the 14th this season.
Pruitt, who will wear number 18, is expected to be available for tonight's game between the Flash and the Arsenal in Anaheim, Calif.
The NBA Development League is the NBA's official minor league, and the first-ever basketball league with direct affiliations to NBA teams. Now in its seventh season the D-League's goals are to provide affordable, NBA-caliber entertainment to fans of its 14 teams, as well as continue to develop players, coaches, referees and front-office personnel for the NBA. As the single source for in-season player "call-ups" to the NBA, fans of the D-League enjoy the highest caliber of basketball played outside the NBA. In fact, former D-League players represented 10 percent of NBA players on 2007-08 opening day rosters, numbering 44 in total. In addition, the D-League has produced 25 percent of current NBA referees and 16 current NBA coaches, including head coach Sam Vincent with the Charlotte Bobcats. The D-League is an innovative and rapidly growing sports property that also serves as an experimental testing ground for new initiatives of the NBA and its teams, provides continuing education and professional development resources for its players, and is committed to serving its local communities through D-LEAGUE CARES and grassroots efforts.
