Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - The 'Gators return to the ice on Thanksgiving Day to take on Pensacola Ice Flyers and on Friday, November 26 against the Southern Professional Hockey League defending champions, Huntsville Havoc. Each game drops the puck at 7:05. In addition to some great hockey, the 'Gators are having two great promotions. The first is for Thursday against the Ice Flyers. Fans that purchase a ticket for the game will receive a complimentary ticket for Friday night's game. Then all fans that attend the game on Friday will have a chance to win a set of black pearls from Andy's Jewelry and an Xbox 360 with the Black Ops video game.
"We are trying to make this a holiday event," answered Randi Landry, Director of Public Relations for the IceGators, when asked about Thursday night's promotion. "We are going to show the fans how thankful we are for them and there is no better way to show them how much we appreciate them then by giving something back to them."
In addition to the game on Thursday, the IceGators want to "Black Out the Dome" on Black Friday. Fans are encouraged to wear black and show their support for the team.
"We want to cause a little havoc for the Havoc by blacking out the dome," responded Landry about blacking out the dome. "This is something that looks great and helps to create a great atmosphere and a game against the defending champions needs an amazing atmosphere."
When the IceGators take on the Ice Flyers and the Havoc, they will be playing the top two teams in the league. Pensacola has 12 points and Huntsville has 16.
Huntsville opened the season winning their first seven games, but currently lost three of the last four. The Havoc rank second in the league with 40 goals scored and lead the league with 105 points. Four Havoc players rank in the top eight in points for the league, Stephen Margeson and Glenn Detulleo each with 14 and Mike MacDonald and Mike Carter with 13 points. Margeson leads the league with 12 goals on the season.
The 'Gators have four players in the top 13 in points. Trevor Karasiewicz leads the league with 19 points. Shawn McNeil, just named the Southern Professional Hockey Player of the Week, and Donald Melnyk are tied for seventh in the league with 13 points. Beau McLaughlin ranks 13th with 12 points.
Pensacola is much different than the IceGators and the Havoc. Pensacola only has two players in the 15 of points scored. Chris Wilson is tied for seventh with 13 and Matt Whitehead is tied for 13th with 12 points. The Ice Flyers are more balanced with 13 players scoring at least one goal and nine of the players have at least two goals.
"This weekend is going to be a tough set of games," replied IceGator Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about the upcoming games. "We have been working hard and this is going to be one of our first real big tests this season. I know that we can compete and win as long as we play our game. We need to be sure not to allow either Huntsville or Pensacola to come out of the gates fast and we need to play our pace."
The 'Gators return home for a three game home stand over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The 'Gators will take on their rivals Mississippi, on Tuesday, November 23 at 7:05, and Pensacola, on Thanksgiving Day at 7:05. Then the defending Southern Professional Hockey League champions, the Huntsville Havoc, visit the Dome on Friday, November 26. Don't miss a moment of the action. Call (337) 704-4423.
