LAWTON, OKLA- Oklahoma Cavs Forward Shawn Daniels and Guards Brandon Dean and DeAnthony Bowden sat down Saturday afternoon for a round table discussion at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
The players among other young leaders from the community spoke to junior high and high school students about education, test scores, peer pressure and career goals.
The group of students asked questions about how they decided what they wanted to be when they grew up, how important education was in their basketball career, and what they did as students to help them achieve their goals.
Bowden reminded the students how important education is.
"If I didn't get a college education, I wouldn't have anything to fall back on. Education was my plan b," said Bowden.
Dean also emphasized how education plays a role in sports. He said it is important to have an educational background because you need the knowledge to understand the legal documents of the contract. Dean encouraged the students to be proactive about their grades as well.
"Don't wait until the last minute of your senior year to try to make the grades. If you do the work and study earlier, you will see results in your final grades and on test scores," said the Cavs guard.
Daniels told the students to not give up on achieving their goals.
"As long as you keep working hard at what you love to do, you will be able to do it," said Forward Daniels.
The Cavs next appearance will Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Empire High School and Crosby Park Elementary.
