LAWTON, OKLA-Oklahoma Cavs Guard DeAnthony Bowden, Forward Adam Spanich, and Head Coach Michael Ray Richardson visited Geronimo Road Elementary School on Thursday afternoon for their Read to Achieve program.
Bowden and Spanich read "Snow Day" by Lester Laminack to 50 third grade students. The students sat quietly as they listened to the story and were showed the illustrations.
After the reading, Coach Richardson spoke to the kids about getting an education, and staying in school is the best decision they could make.
Spanich told the kids to always listen to their elders because they are experienced. He also told the students to maintain a healthy diet to help them in their studies and in their athletics.
Bowden told the students, "If you have a dream, then you should chase it. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Believe in yourself."
Principal Harold McCann said, "It's really nice to have them here today. It's really good for the kids to see role models, because we really need them today."
The Cavs Read to Achieve program is designed to help kids develop a love for reading, to help focus on learning and encouraging parents to read to their children.
The Oklahoma Cavs will visit Pat Henry School on Feb. 8.
