Cavs Assign Eyenga to BayHawks
November 18, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Thursday, November 18 - The Cleveland Cavaliers have assigned guard/forward Christian Eyenga to their NBA Development League Affiliate, the Erie BayHawks. Eyenga, 6-5, 210 pounds, is a rookie from Kinshasa, DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo). He will participate in the team's practice on Thursday and be in uniform for Erie Friday night.
The Cavs drafted Eyenga (eye-ang-uh) in the first round of the 2009 NBA draft (30th overall) and he spent the 2009-10 season playing for DKV Joventut Badalona in the Spain-ACB League, where he averaged 3.9 points and 2.0 rebounds in 29 games. He has yet to make an appearance with the Cavaliers this season but played in six games during the preseason, averaging 4.3 points on .625 shooting and 0.8 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per game.
Eyenga joins fellow rookie Solomon Alabi from the Toronto Raptors who was assigned the BayHawks on Monday, to put the team's opening night roster at 12 active players. NBA D-League teams are permitted to carry only 10 players with D-League contracts, however, are allowed to expand rosters to a maximum of 12 active players to allow for NBA assignments. Each NBA affiliate can assign up to two players at any given time.
The BayHawks tip-off the season with back-to-back games this Friday and Saturday versus the Springfield Armor at 7pm at the Tullio Arena. It marks the first time in franchise history that Erie opens the season at home.
Tickets still remain for opening weekend and can be purchased by contacting the BayHawks at 790-5600, in person at the Tullio Arena box office or online at ticketmaster.com.
