Cats Win in Thrilling Fashion

July 24, 2019 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
North Adams SteepleCats News Release

In what was advertised as the biggest game of the season to date the SteepleCats played host to the Keene SwampBats who came into this game holding a 1 game lead in the standings. The Cats sent out started Mason Ronan, who has had success against Keene this season. However, Keene jumped on him for 4 runs in the first inning, he would not give up any other runs over his remaining 3 innings of work. The Cats kept setting the table with runners on the base paths each inning, but couldn't get that big hit they needed to get back into the game. They trailed 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh, that's when Tre Kirklin changed the game. A 3-run BOMB to left-center field brought the crowd to its feet and the Cats within a run of the lead. In the bottom of the 8th, after Jimmy Loper struck out the side in the top of the inning Muntz and Komistek both got hit by pitches. This would be Komistek's final at-bat for the club as he is headed home after a tremendous summer. Later in the inning Scout Knotts came through with the game-tying single scoring Muntz from 2nd. Just a batter later Kyle Brennan delivered an RBI groundout to plate Komistek and take the lead for the first time in the game. In the top of the 9th with runners on 2nd and 1st and nobody out Dan Corvo was called on to shut the door, and he was as advertised. Corvo got a pair of strikeouts and an infield popup to complete the sensational comeback victory for the Cats by a final of 6-5. The SteepleCats are now tied for 1st and will travel to Winnipesaukee tomorrow in search of revenge, and the potential solo top spot in the division. The season is coming right down to the wire, you can catch all the action on our radio broadcasts as the Cats continue to fight.
