Cats top Aviators in series finale, 6-5

ROBSTOWN, Texas – The Coastal Bend Aviators lost the rubber match to the Fort Worth Cats 6-5 on Sunday night.

Edwin Maldonado got the first RBI for the Aviators on a double out to right-centerfield scoring Matt Mann making the score 1-0.

Fort Worth’s John Allen hit a homerun over the left field wall in the top of the second inning scoring Tony Mota to make the score 2-1.

Ben Tinius hit his first homerun of the season out to deep left field scoring Kevin Henry making the score 3-2.

Mann added a solo homerun over the left field wall to retake the lead 4-3.

Mota hit an RBI single past second baseman Carlos Figueroa in the top of the seventh inning to score Merriman from third base making the score 6-4.

Mike Guerrero hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring Kenny Hansley making the score 6-5.

J.J. Trujillo (1-5) took his fifth straight loss pitching six innings giving up four earned runs off of three hits and had four strikeouts.

Ryan Weems (5-2) picked up the win for the Cats. Juan Figueroa pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

After a day off the Aviators start a three-game series against Jackson on Tuesday. Tuesday is Fear Factor day and two-for-Tuesday at Fairgrounds field. Tickets are available through the Aviator’s website, or call (361) 387-8585. All games are broadcast on KCCT 1150 AM, and the Aviators website.
