San Angelo Colts News Release

Fort Worth, Texas --- The Fort Worth Cats swept the San Angelo Colts in their doubleheader Sunday night at LaGrave Field. Fort Worth came from behind to win game one, 7-6, and then won game two handily, 5-1.

In game one, centerfielder Justin Reed hit a three-run double in the fifth inning to give San Angelo a 5-3 lead. However, the Colts' bullpen squandered the lead in the seventh, forcing extra innings.

The Colts took a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth, but the Cats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the win. Shortstop Kori Melo hit a leadoff single and then scored on an RBI double by designated hitter Daniel Meeley.

Meeley advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored the winning run on third baseman Greg Bachman's sacrifice fly into right field. Reliever Jeremy Tietze (2-2) surrendered the run, and therefore took the loss.

Cats' starter Cole Stephens (4-2) earned a complete-game victory. He allowed six runs on 11 hits in nine innings.

Fort Worth took an early 2-0 lead in game two, and never trailed. The Cats led 4-0 after four innings, and went on to get the 5-1 win.

Colts' starter Derek Vaughn (0-1) suffered his first loss of the year. He allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings pitched. Cats' starter James Giulietti (3-2) got the win, giving up a run on four hits in six innings.

The wins improve Fort Worth to 36-22, while the losses drop San Angelo to 27-28. This series concludes Monday at LaGrave Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 6:50 p.m.

The Colts are in the midst of a seven-game road trip against the Cats and the Edinburg Roadrunners. The Colts return home for their last 12-game home stand of the regular season on Tuesday, July 30.
