Cats ride hot start over Pelicans

A five-run first inning set the tone for the game for the Cats as they downed the Pelicans 13-4 in front of 4,348 at LaGrave Field Saturday night.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the inning on an Andy Wilson leadoff homer, the Cats scored five times inculding a Terence Green three-run homer and took a 5-1 lead.

Fort Worth added to its advantage in the third inning on a long, two-run homer by Jason Radwan making it 7-2 Cats.

The Cats piled on the runs in the sixth inning, posting another five-run frame and putting the game out of reach at 12-2.

Cats second baseman Dennis Pelfrey was 4-for-5 in the game with three RBIs. Green's homer was his third in as many games and was part of a five-RBI night.

Starter Angel Aragon (2-2) earned the win as he went seven innings and allowed three earned runs on 11 hits. Lefthander Bubba Dobson, who started for Pensacola, was saddled with the loss after he worked only 2/3 of an inning allowing five runs on four hits.

The win is the second in a row for the Cats, who improve their record to 10-12. The Pelicans drop their second straight and they will sport an 8-14 record heading into play on Sunday.

Three members of the Pelicans starting nine, plus manager Bernie Carbo were ejected from the game in four separate incidents.

Dave Stevens (2-1, 4.44) will pitch for the Cats and Santos Hernandez (0-0, 3.18) will climb the hill for Pensacola.
