North Adams SteepleCats News Release
On a night where the SteepleCats were looking to push their record to a franchise best start of 8-1 on the season, the rain almost delayed that pursuit. Though as the showers cleared up and play began it was clear that the SteepleCats were in for a fight against the Vermont Mountaineers. The starting pitcher Nick Payero was dazzling as he went 6 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits while on the mound. The Mountaineers starter kept pace until the 6th inning where after 2 leadoff walks and a sac fly by Komistek, the hottest hitter in the Cats line-up, Scout Knotts, broke the tie with a 2-run double. The Cats would add on one more in the inning to take a 3-run lead into the back third of the game. Then in the 7th inning Joey Porricelli added on with his first homerun of the season as he sent a towering shot over the left field fence. Josh Loeffler wasn't far behind with a blast of his own in the 8th inning. Jacob Abbott danced out of a bases loaded two out jam in the 8th, and the 9th inning belonged to Madison Jeffery as he shut the door and preserved the shutout as the Cats took it 6-0 and allowed only 4 hits on the day. Over the last 2 games the SteepleCats have allowed 8 hits and have tallied 25 of their own. The offense, thanks in no small part to the superb batting practice pitching of Parker Lynn, has been on a roll and have allowed their pitchers to pitch with the lead and that has allowed the pitching staff to go right after hitters. Things seem to be clicking for the Cats and with new players still falling into place, the season is looking more and more promising for these Cats.
