'Cats look ahead to game two after dropping first game, 8-4

Edmonton, AB- The Edmonton Cracker-Cats look to rebound tomorrow night, after dropping the opening game of the 2008 playoffs tonight at Telus Field, 8-4. Right-hander Erik Van Slyke went 7.1 innings with 11 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. He was relieved by Joel Schmal who faced one batter in the eighth. Robert Coello struck out two to end the eight. Dave Humen came into the game in the ninth. He gave up 3 hits, 3 earned runs and 2 walks.

Joe Sergent got the start for the Vipers. He pitched 7.2 innings giving up 6 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and 7k's. Mac Suzuki relieved Sergent, he went 1.1 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, with 3 strikeouts.

The Vipers got on the board first, scoring two runs in the fourth. With the Vipers up by seven runs going into the ninth, Edmonton loaded the bases and the Calgary pitchers walked in three straight runs. However, that was as close as Edmonton would come on this night, as they could not find a way to even the score.

The 'Cats look to redeem themselves tomorrow evening for game number two. Game time is 7:05pm.
