Cats Late Rally Falls Short
As the SteepleCats were looking to get back in the win column they headed up to Keene to take on the SwampBats. The SteepleCats sent Alex Gomes to the mound to try to right the ship as the offense was looking to get back on the right track as they had been stagnant, scoring only 2 runs over the last 2 games. Keene struck first as they grabbed 3 runs in the first inning to jump out of the gate to an early lead. The SteepleCats line-up battled to keep them in the game and it was a 4-2 SwampBats lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. This is when the wheels came off the buggy for the Cats, with Keene having such a small ballpark they struck for 3 home runs in the fourth inning and some defensive errors by the Cats added fuel to the fire as Keene put up five runs in the fourth inning and stretched out to a 7 run lead. As hope dwindled in the New Hampshire night the Cats refused to give up as they continued to get runners on base, the simply could not get that first big hit with runners in scoring position. As the 9th inning came around the Cats continued their efforts as with two outs in the inning they rallied for 5 runs in the inning. A 3-run homer by Sam Punzi shocked some life into the club. They fell by a score of 12-8, however, they forced Keene to use 5 pitchers in the game and they will carry some momentum from that 9th inning into their game today as they are back at Keene once again. Looking to break out of this 3-game losing skid are the Cats, and they finally after almost 3 games have shown some signs of offensive life, if the defensive struggles can be shored up, they should be able to get back into the win column soon. Regardless of result this team continues to fight and that fighting mentality is something that will never go into a slump and should carry this team out of this 3- game skid.
