Cats Hold Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas - the Fort Worth Cats held off a late by the Edinburg Roadrunners on Monday night to defeat them by a score of 6-4 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The teams traded scoreless frames for the first three innings until Fort Worth added a pair of runs in the fourth inning to make it a 2-0 game. Kori Melo had an RBI single, which got the Cats offense going with Chris Ellison adding an RBI fielder's choice.

The Cats (8-3) added another run in the fifth inning when Greg Bachman earned a walk with two outs and Dave Bergin hit an RBI double that extended the lead to 3-0.

The Roadrunners (3-8) got on the board courtesy of an RBI single by Fernando de los Santos that made it a 3-1. Then Cats scored a run in three of the last four innings to end the scoring fest.

The Roadrunners would not go away easily in the ninth inning when Carlton Salters drew a walk and was drove in by Eric Gonzalez, who hit a double to make it a 6-2 game. After a fly out the next two batters drew a walk, which loaded bases and Austin Fraker had an RBI single to cut the margin at 6-3.

Tomochika Tsuboi added a fielder's choice RBI to make a 6-4 game. Hector Contin threw two-thirds of an inning and earned his first save of the season.

James Giulietti (1-1) threw seven innings in the victory allowing one earned run and three strikeouts.

Drew Coffey (1-2) took the loss going four innings allowing an earned run while striking out two hitters.

The Cats and Roadrunners will play the finale of the four game series on Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium where Kyle Wilson (0-0; 4.50 ERA) is scheduled to take on Eric Sheridan (2-0; 0.90 ERA) of the Cats.

Tuesday's game will be Texas Mutual Insurance mini fan give away where the first 1,000 fans through gate will get receive a mini fan.
