Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats fought off an Edinburg Roadrunner rally on Monday night to move to 8-3 on the season.
With a five-run lead in the ninth inning, Cats reliever Boomer Potts came on to shut down the game, but struggled for his second outing in a row. Potts gave up three earned runs on one hit and three walks in only 0.1 of an inning.
Hector Contin was then called upon to get the final two outs. He executed and earned his first save of the season, finalizing the 6-4 Cats victory.
The Cats got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning by stringing together two hits and two fielder's choices along with an error.
The Roadrunners (3-8) got their first run in the fifth while the Cats scored one run in the fifth, six, eighth and ninth innings.
An interesting moment occurred in the top of the first when the Cats had runners at first and second with no outs. Third baseman Shelby Ford grounded the first pitch of the at bat to third and Edinburg third baseman Bunyu Maeda turned the 5-4-3 triple play to end the inning.
The Roadrunners reported that it was the first triple play in franchise history.
Cats starting pitcher James Giulietti rebounded from a loss in his last start to pitch seven innings, giving up only one run on six hits and one walk. He earned his first win of the season.
The Cats will finish off the road trip against the Roadrunners on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The team will have a day off on Wednesday before opening a homestand against the San Angelo Colts (6-5) on Thursday at 7 p.m. That game will be Thirsty Thursday and all soft drinks and beer will be $2.
Tickets to Thursday's game can be purchased by going to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
