Fort Worth Cats News Release
Fort Worth Cats' pinch hitter Cody Bishop was thrown at home for the last out of the game on Tuesday night, giving the Edinburg Roadrunners the 3-2 victory.
The Cats (38-26) led the Roadrunners (33-31) 1-0 through seven innings before Edinburg brought three across in the eighth to go up 3-1.
Designated hitter David Bergin cut into the lead when the blasted his United League-leading 12th home run in the eighth.
After Edinburg closer Alex Schmarzo recorded two outs in the ninth inning, Bishop drew a walk and center fielder Cameron Monger singled to put the tying run in scoring position for shortstop Ryan Miller.
Miller hit a soft liner over the head of Jordan Etier at second base and manager Jim Essian waved home Bishop in an attempt to tie the game. Right fielder Tim Battle's throw home made it just in time to get Bishop for the game's final out.
Cats' starter Roman Gomez went seven strong innings, striking out seven batters and giving up no runs before everything unraveled in the eighth.
Battle hit a tying home run before the Roadrunners strung together two doubles and a single for the 3-1 lead.
The Cats' look for revenge on Wednesday against the Roadrunners. Game two's first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
