Fort Worth Cats News Release
Fort Worth, Texas-- The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings defeated the Fort Worth Cats 12-6 on Friday night at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, TX.
WhiteWings reliever Celson Polanco (1-0) picked up the win with four and two-thirds innings of relief for starter Luis Noel. Polanco allowed one run on three hits and struck out three.
Cats starter Kane Holbrooks (0-1) got the loss after giving up eight runs scattered over three and one-thirds of innings. Holbrooks allowed eleven hits and struck out two.
WhiteWings shortstop Fidel Hernandez led the Rio Grande Valley offense with three hits in five plate appearances. Hernandez knocked in six runs, four of which were on a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning. Right fielder Francisco Santana also went 3-for-5 and batted in three runs.
The Fort Worth bats were strong as well, but their six runs and ten hits could not keep up with the explosive WhiteWings. Jason Diaz led the Cats scoring with two runs and another batted in. Diaz was 2-for-3 with two walks.
The Cats and WhiteWings finish off their four game series tomorrow night at 7:05 at LaGrave Field. Tickets are available by phone at (817) 332-CATS or online at www.fwcats.com.
