Fort Worth Cats News Release
FORT WORTH, TX - For the second straight night, the Rio Grande Valley White Wings started the 1st inning by tacking on the opening score on the ballgame only to have the Cats claw their way to a win. Francisco Santana led off for the White Wings with a double off of starter Trevor Hardin, stole 2nd base, then advanced to 3rd on a Miguel Chacoa single. He came in to score the go ahead run on a line shot RBI single to center by Fidel Hernandez. Hardin responded by striking out Nick Lenzendorf and forcing Miguel Alonzo into a 6-3 double play. After the first, Harden settled down, allowing no further damage until the 6th when a misplayed single to right was stretched into 3 base outcome as a result of a fielding error by right fielder Chuck Caufield. Hernandez scored on a Nick Lenzendorf RBI ground out to second. In the eighth, Harden loaded up the bases with two outs, when T. J. Bozeman came in and faced Jose Rivero. Rivero popped out to 2nd and the side was retired. Jeff Jamnik closed out the White Wings in the 9th to preserve the win and garner his first save.
One the offensive side of the ball, the Cats went scoreless for the first 4 innings before Derek Marshall reached on a fielding error by Shortstop Fidel Hernandez. Jason Diaz followed by reaching on a Miguel Chacoa throwing error that careened all the way out to the Cats bullpen in right field, allowing Marshall to score the first Cats run of the game. John Dziomba continued his hot hitting with a RBI Double to left. After a R.J. Harris ground out, Jose Ruiz tacked on the third run of the inning by driving a hot liner through first baseman Nick Lenzendorf. The Cats added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Brandon Jones drove a 2-2 pitch off the top of the Trinity River levee in left.
""I had it in the back of my mind that they were going to get runs tonight," said winner Trevor Hardin.
With the win, the Cats improve to 2-0, while the White Wings fall to 0-2. Trevor Harden takes the win and goes to 1-0. Geovanny Reyes gets the loss and falls to 0-1.
Both teams return to the field for Game 3 of a 4 Game series tomorrow night at LaGrave. First Pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
