Cats Break Open Tie with Seventh Inning Rally

The Fort Worth Cats' bats came alive and the team broke open a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning, as they defeated the Alexandria Aces 9-3 on Sunday night at LaGrave Field.

The Aces (19-18) got on the board first in the third inning, but the Cats (24-13) tied the game in the fourth inning and then went ahead with a two-run fifth.

After Alexandria tied it up in the sixth inning, the Cats' offense rallied for four runs in the seventh inning.

Fort Worth added two more insurance runs in the eighth to make it 9-3.

First baseman David Bergin went 3-for-4 on the night, notching four runs batted in.

Every member of the Cats' starting lineup got a hit, with the exception of center fielder Cameron Monger who contributed with an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Cats' starter Aaron Wilkerson breezed through his first two innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced, but faltered in the third and then allowed the tying runs in the sixth.

Reliever Stephen Nikonchik shut the Aces' bats down, allowing only one hit and two walks in three innings of work.

The Cats and Aces play game two of the four-game series on Monday night at LaGrave Field. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
